SEATTLE, WA -- The new retro logo at Starbucks is stirring controversy.
The logo shows a mermaid with partially-covered breasts.
A christian group based in San Diego called The Resistance says the logo looks like a naked woman with her legs spread like a prostitute.
The Resistance is calling for a national boycott of Starbucks.
Starbucks says the logo is appropriate. It'll be around for a few weeks.
The logo is based on a 16th century Norse woodcut of a two-tailed mermaid.

This logo is no worse than what we already see in pop culture. Womens bodies are always sexualized to sell products. I do have a problem with the prostitution reference made by the resistance group. Denigrating one group of women is counter-productive to raising the status of women as a group. As far as I know prostitutes aren't the only women who spread their legs.
Bloody Christians holding our society back once again. This logo is so inoffensive that I hope this group gets scorned by Starbucks.
Womens bodies are beautiful. Christians, please keep your disturbing "ideals" about sexuality out of our society, they only cause more harm.
I suppose that one would have to have seen a prostitute spread her legs to know what that looks like.
Aren't these are the same people who want to put pants on animals? lol
These Christians are seeing what they want to see. They are actually the perverted ones, not the logo. How do these people have so much time?
Christians are a cancer on our society. We as a nation have given them too much of a voice. Our constitution gives them the freedom of religion, but it should give us freedom from religion as well. Christians are the real perverts, they find something perverted in most things they see.
Mermaids can't spread their legs... can they?
Hey wait.. .thats not a new logo! Thats their old old logo. Starbucks, before getting popular, used to have its own catalog selling all kinds of coffee related goodies. I bought some old style coffee mugs back in the early 90s with this logo on them. I like it better actually.
